St Aloysius is a Mercy school with a strong Mercy tradition based on the values of welcome, compassion, excellence, stewardship, dignity and respect, justice and service. Our mission is to nurture faith, empower minds and inspire action

We are committed to nurturing the spiritual and educational growth of all students through positive relationships built on respect. We empower students to think creatively, work collaboratively and communicate effectively, developing the necessary critical thinking skills for an ever changing world. Under the careful guidance of an expert teaching team, our students are inspired to actively seek opportunities that drive positive change. Students of St Aloysius graduate with respect, confidence, curiosity and a love of learning, ready to make their mark on the world.

Our school offers a relevant, engaging and challenging curriculum, allowing students to embrace learning and achieve excellence in many curricular and co-curricular domains. Strong literacy and numeracy programs are supported by specialist programs in STEM, music, art and sport. Years 3-6 students learn to play a musical instrument through the Amadeus Music Education Program and K-6 students learn to speak Mandarin. At the heart of the curriculum is our religious education program in which students come to know and love Jesus. We are committed to providing a broad curriculum offering that nurtures the unique gifts and talents of each child.

Our highly skilled, passionate and enthusiastic teachers work tirelessly to support the learning and wellbeing of each individual. They ensure that every student receives a contemporary education and is working at their potential.

We encourage authentic student participation, providing students with a voice on matters that affect them. Students are active in social justice and are explicitly taught social and emotional skills to enhance their resilience and wellbeing.

We value strong home-school partnerships and warmly welcome new families as part of our close-knit school community.

Our HistoryHistory

St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Cronulla is proud of its Catholic heritage. Founded by St Mary MacKillop’s order of nuns, the Josephites in 1918, and entrusted to the Mercy Sisters only a few years later, the sisters maintained an active role in the school’s curriculum up until recent years. The historic 1930’s Thornton Hall, where the first sisters ran the school, still stands today on Nicholson Parade.

Through our faithfulness to the spirit of Catherine McAuley’s vision, St Aloysius works to provide a Catholic education which enables the formation of the whole person imbued with the Mercy values which are championed by each grade every year. Our Mercy charism is particularly evident in our annual celebration of Mercy Market Day and our partnership with the Sisters of Mercy.

Our MissionAt St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Cronulla, we practice the ideals captured in our mission statement – nurturing faith, empowering minds, inspiring action.

Vision

Innovative minds and merciful hearts contributing to a hope filled future.

Principles

Our principles are the guides that inform our teaching:

  • nurturing spiritual and educational growth
  • empowering students to think creatively
  • work collaboratively, communicate effectively
  • developing critical thinking skills
  • inspiring students to drive positive change.

Our school logo which includes the Mercy Cross and the shell, represent our Mercy charism and the locality of Cronulla derived from the aboriginal name Kurranulla, place of pink seashells. St Aloysius the pilgrim, is also represented in the symbol of the shell. The seven teal bands of the shell represent our seven Mercy values.

Our ParishOur Parish

The community of St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Cronulla is one of trust, reflection and relationships under the guidance of our beloved Parish Priest, Rev James McCarthy at St Aloysius Parish.

Both parish and school are dedicated to the patron saint of youth, St Aloysius Gonzaga, an Italian saint whose feast is celebrated on 21 June. The Mercy charism and heritage is sustained throughout all the school’s undertakings, as evidenced by the students adopting one of the seven Mercy values for each year of their schooling. The students learn and understand how they can strive to live these values each day.
